Samsung fixes problem in Galaxy S7 Active
waterproof. The Korean smartphone maker told the site a manufacturing defect caused some Galaxy S7 Active units to fail dunk tests. Samsung said it has fixed the problem. “The company says it launched an investigation after two phones failed a Consumer Reports dunk test, and that the manufacturing problems were corrected approximately one week after our results were published on July 8,” says the report on Consumer Reports.
Consumer Reports, on June 8, reported Galaxy S7 Active – which comes with IP68-rating and is water and shatter resistant – doesn’t meet Samsung’s own claims. According to Samsung, all S7 phones, including the Active, are designed to survive in up to 5 feet of water for 30 minutes. Consumer Reports, however, revealed that after a half-hour in water, the Active’s screen flashed green and other colors and didn’t respond to touch. Tiny bubbles appeared on the camera lenses. Consumer Reports tested a second Active phone to verify results and it also failed. Maria Rerecich, Consumer Reports’ director of electronics testing, had said she was surprised the Active failed.
Phil Berne, a public relations manager for Samsung told Consumer Reports that number of defected Galaxy S7 Active units were ‘tiny’ as compared to the total number of devices. Berne told the site that all Galaxy S7 Active phones are manufactured in the same facility in Asia. But the company found problem in the production line and corrected it. Users, who have already purchased the Galaxy Active S7 with the problem can either return the same to the retailer or directly to Samsung for a replacement.
